Abstract

Allan considers the culture and responsibilities that are tied to teachers and pre-service education in colleges and universities.  The pressure of professionalism undermines teachers’ abilities to engage in controversial discourse as means to bring forth change in the classroom.  The author explores the various obstacles faced by teacher educators and offers modes of navigation and negotiation in response to institutional power.  She argues that operating within the realms of the ontological, the aesthetic and the epiphanic can lead to new practices of inclusion in teacher education.
